Bill Monroe's Birthplace

Ascend Jersalem Ridge to the beautifully restored boyhood home of Bill Monroe, the "Father of Bluegrass Music” and imagine the musician's life with his family. Guided tours are given, often by those who knew Bill or other Monroes. Open Monday - Saturday: 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday: 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Free, donations accepted. (45 min - 1 hour)

Bill Monroe and “Uncle Pen” Gravesites (or Rosine Cemetary)
Ky St Rd 1544 & 5th St Loop - Rosine - 270-274-5552

Tip your hat at the graves of Bill Monroe and most of his family, including Birch & Charlie Monroe and Pendleton (Uncle Pen) Vandiver. Many Civil War and other veterans are buried here, as well. - Dawn to dusk - Free (20 min)

Rosine Barn and Jamboree

Hometown boy Bill Monroe performed twice at the Rosine Barn the year before his death, and the building is listed on the Register of Historic Places. Visit on a Friday night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and you can enjoy authentic jam sessions of Bluegrass, country and gospel music. Everyone is welcome and musicians can perform. - Free, donations accepted. - (Exterior – 10 min, Jamboree – up to 4 hours)

Rosine General Store

Go back in time at this real country store built in the 20’s - you can chat and grab a bite to eat in Bill Monroe’s hometown. You might hear some pickin’, too. On the National Register of Historic Places. - Open Monday – Saturday 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. , later hours in summer and Friday nights for a special fishfry - (30 min)

Want to be a star? Record your own music DVD at a studio with back-up provided if desired. Call for an appointment. Any musician can join the informal jam sessions held on the last Saturday of each month beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until the free coffee’s gone. Listeners welcome, too. - Free, cost for recording varies. - (15 min - 1 hr.)

Rosine Cemetery

The ”Father of Bluegrass Music”, Bill Monroe, and most of his family are buried here, including Birch and Charlie Monroe and Pendleton (Uncle Pen) Vandiver. Cemetery was founded in the early 1860’s. Dawn to dusk - Free

Ohio County Museum

The museum is all of this and more: a two story house built in 1880, a small country store, a relocated one room school, Rustic Relics building, an L&N caboose and an 1838 log cabin typically furnished for the era. Computer-accessed genealogy for Ohio County is available, too. Self –guided tours (Special guided tours can be arranged)
Open May through October - Thursday through Friday 1 pm - 4 pm

Ohio County Veterans Museum

Take time to honor hundreds of Ohio County’s Military from all branches of service.
On display are many photos, uniforms and memorabilia.

Bluegrass Motorcycle Museum

Visit this unique museum to see 20 vintage American-made motorcycles and 30 years of motorcycle
memorabilia on display. The friendly owner/collector shares great tales.
Open Tuesday through Friday. Appointments preferred - Free, donations appreciated

Dundee Goat and Historic Lodge
Hwy 69 No. - Dundee

The Dundee Goat is a famous Ohio County landmark – this old weathervane came from Scotland
long ago and “watches over” the town. You can stop and take a picture with your hand “on” the goat.

Fordsville Historical Society and Depot Museum

You can almost hear the clatter of the trains as you visit this restored depot, built in 1916.
The museum contains train memorabilia and fascinating relics of Kentucky rural life. -
